Abstract

Study design : single, cross sectional, hospital based study
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to report and study a case of posterior staphyloma for which its incidence is 9% in Asians and 2% white population.
Methods: A 23 yr old female patient presented to eye OPD for routine examination. She complained of diminution of vision in right eye since childhood.
Result : On examination, UCVA right eye 3/60 and left eye 6/6. BCVA RE 6/60 with – 4.00DS/ – 0.75 DC x 135°. Both eyes anterior segment within normal limits. Fundus examination of right eye shows posterior staphyloma with myopic maculopathy.
Conclusion : A staphyloma is a circumscribed outpouching of the wall of the globe. Posterior staphyloma is considered a hallmark of pathologic myopia and are among one of the major causes of developing maculopathy.
