Abstract
Study design- Prospective ,observational study (3month)
Purpose – Check effect of aerobic exercises(briskwalking, jogging, swimming) on intraocular pressure(IOP)
Method – 52 cases of POAG aged 30 -70yrs on same anti glaucoma medication (prostaglandin analogues) were taken for the study. They were randomly divided into exercise & control groups. The control group had irregular or no exercise. Visual acuity(VA) ,IOP(Appalanation Tonometry) ,OCT ONH & Perimetry was done
Results- Statistically significant (P<0.05) decrease in IOP was found in 46% of exercise group mean change in IOP was 2±0.66mm Hg. The change in IOP showed positive correlation with age (r>1) no gender predeliction. There was no change in OCT ONH & fields. No significant change in controls
Conclusion– Significant decrease of IOP suggest that aerobic exercise is useful for patients with POAG and hence should be encouraged
