Abstract

Muller muscle Conjunctival resection (MMCR) is often performed for mild ptosis and is preferred in patients who have an ill-defined eyelid crease on the contralateral side too. MMCR is known to provide a good post-operative contour and faster healing than the anterior approach to ptosis correction but the main drawback is the resection of normal conjunctiva which leads to damage to accessory lacrimal glands and conjunctival goblet cells.
A simple modification of the surgery (“conjunctiva-sparing Muller’s muscle resection”) by sparing the conjunctiva eliminates these drawbacks and this video demonstrates the steps of this modified surgery. Patient photographs before and after surgery are demonstrated. This video demonstration of the conjunctiva sparing MMCR or “MMR” would help surgeons understand the procedure and promote the adoption of this technique by reducing the already-low risk of complications associated with it.
