Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Case series
PURPOSE: To highlight diagnostic challenges in atypical retinitis pigmentosa (RP)
METHODS: 3 cases were diagnosed clinically as atypical RP. First case had sectoral RP with corresponding field defect in nasal half, giving appearance of binasal field defect. Second case had peripheral pigmentary changes in both eyes and disc pallor in left eye. Inferior altitudinal field defect was noted and consumption of Sildenafil was elicited which prompted us to consider superimposed ischaemic pathology. Third case had yellowish white pigmentation in mid-periphery with normal macula, visual field testing revealed involvement of central field.
CONCLUSION: Confusing visual field in atypical RP causes diagnostic challenge.
