Abstract
Study design: Prospective comparative study
Purpose: To evaluate role of prophylactic topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs( NSAIDS-Nepafenac) eyedrops on total macular volume (TMV) in diabetic eyes undergoing small incision cataract surgery(SICS).
Methods: Study was conducted in a tertiary care center from October-22 to March-23. Study sample included 80 diabetic eyes undergoing SICS. Pre-operativeTMV measured using Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT). Then all eyes underwent manual SICS. Post-operatively study sample was divided into 2 groups. Both groups received conventional topical antibiotic steroid eyedrops, plus Group A received topical Nepafenac eyedrops. Post-operative TMV were measured on day 7, 28 and 90. Statistical analysis done.
Results: The p value of change in TMV compared amongst 2 groups showed 0.5691(<0.05 was taken as significant)
Conclusion: There is no role of topical NSAIDs in diabetic eyes post cataract surgery for prevention of increasing TMV.
