Abstract

Study Design – Case report

Purpose- To report a case of full thickness Intraocular Lens defect following Nd:YAG Laser Capsulotomy.

Methods- A 48 year old male patient presented with h/o diminution of vision. On examination, vision in right eye was counting fingers at 1 meter and in left eye was counting fingers at 3 meters, normal iris pattern was lost. Patient had been diagnosed with Posterior capsular opacity in both eyes and underwent Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for the same elsewhere.

Results- Full thickness 1.5 mm and 0.3 mm diameter defects were noted along the visual axis in right and left eye respectively.

ConclusionNd: YAG laser capsulotomy is a relatively safe procedure for management of Posterior Capsular Opacity. Proper focusing and use of lower but effective energy levels can prevent vision threatening complications.
