Abstract
Observational cross-sectional study done between Nov 2022-april 2023 including 50 patients on Antitubercular Therapy who presented to our tertiary eye centre.PURPOSE- Detection of ethambutol toxicity to prevent early vision loss. METHODS- History taken, pupil reaction seen, BCVA at the time of presentation,colour vision, contrast sensitivity, slit lamp examination, fundoscopy, perimetry, SD-OCT, VEP done.Routine follow up at 1 week,1 month,3 months and 6 months was done. RESULTS- Vision dropped within 2 months in 10 patients, colour vision deficiency noted, visual field examination showed central scotomas in all and bitemporal hemianopia in 3 patients.OCT revealed thinning of GCL and temporal quadrant of RNFL.Visual Evoked Potential showed reduced amplitude in all and prolonged P1 and P2 latency. CONCLUSION- early detection was found to be effective in preventing irreversible vision loss due to ethambutol toxicity.
