Abstract

PURPOSE
Report a case of recurrent IU and scleritis which later presented as ARN
METHODS
Patient, kco htn, presented with c/o redness, pain in RE over 4 months. O/E, he was diagnosed with RE Recurrent IU with Scleritis
RESULTS
O/E, on being diagnosed with scleritis, patient was started on oral, topical steroids on 7d tapering. As dose reached 10mg, patient presented again with RE IU. Steroids were stepped up again and as dose reduced to 10mg, he presented with NGAU. This continued a few times on tapering of steroids. Patient was started on long term immunosuppressants with oral Azathioprine 50mg BD under steroid cover. 2 weeks later, patient presented again with scleritis, along with vitritis grade 2+, a large retinitis patch in inferior periphery and adjacent areas of confluent arterial vasculitis. Which lead to the final diagnosis of ARN
CONCLUSION
After a long course of oral steroids, when patient was put on immunosuppression, a viral etiology was discovered in the form of ARN
