Abstract

Aim: To report a rare case of 6 year old male with swelling in the eyelid which came out to be eyelid hydatid cyst. Method:Patient presented to the OPD with swelling in the left upper eyelid since 3 months which was gradually progressive in size with On & Off pain .O/E Left upper eyelid showed swelling of 3×2 cm close to the lateral canthus, cystic in consistency & well defined borders. Skin over it was free & adherent to deeper structures with mechanical ptosis. No extension into orbit. Other findings within normal limits. BCVA BE 6/6. Patient underwent Surgical excision of mass done under GA. Result: Mass excised and sent for histopathological evaluation & diagnosed as hydatid cyst. Conclusion: Orbital hydatid cyst comprises <1 % of all hydatid cases. Our case showed hydatid cyst in the eyelid which is very rare. Treatment of choice is surgery without rupturing the cyst, adjuvant medical therapy with oral albendazole decreases the chance of relapse & size of cyst.
