Abstract
The aim of the study was to find out changes in intra-ocular pressure in patients who were applying steroid containing preparations on their face. A total of 158 patients with a history of application of topical corticosteroid (TCS) on the face were enrolled into the study. Clinical history was taken with reference to duration, frequency and strength of TCS. Information was also collected on whether the drug was prescription-based or not. A detailed ophthalmological examination was conducted in all of them with specific emphasis of intra-ocular pressure and disc or field changes wherever applicable.
Out of total 158 patients, 120 (75.9%) were females, 95 (60.1%) were below thirty years of age. More than half (58%) belonged to lower socio-economic status. Clobetasol was the most common TCS used as reported by 59 (37.34%) patients. A raised IOP was observed in 5 patients.
All patients of Glaucoma must be inquired about the history of application of TCS on the face.
