Abstract

59 years old male patient presented with slow growing mass in the lateral 1/3rd of lower eyelid measuring 2.3×1.0x0.7cm since past 30 years presenting as eyelid Junctional nevus. No secondary changes seen over the lesion and no lymphadenopathy on examination. Patient underwent shave excision of lesion. Frozen section was performed. Histopathological report showed intraepithelial squamous dysplasia with high atypia along with major components of epithelial basal cell layer with atypical palisading nuclei with fewer melanin pigments and was diagnosed as pigmented variant of BCC. Basal cell carcinoma can sometimes affect the eyelids and in particular the eyelid margins, where they are often misdiagnosed, mimicking other benign, more common diseases. Wide excision with modification of CUTLER BEARD TECHNIQUE for reconstruction of lower eyelid performed. Patient was then referred to oncologist for further treatment.
