Abstract

A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY of a case of NEONATAL ACUTE DACRYOCYSTITIS presented to our OPD.
A 23 days old baby boy was brought to our OPD by parents with complaints of eyelid swelling, redness of left eye, discharge from left eye and unable to open left eye since 1 day. History of watering from left eye was present since 15 days of age. Swelling was noted medial to medial canthus along with the signs of inflammation. Swab Sample of discharge was collected and sent to Microbiology lab for performing Culture and Sensitivity. X Ray Skull was done to rule out underlying osteomyelitis. A Diagnosis of ACUTE DACRYOCYSTITIS with PRE SEPTAL CELLULITIS was made and Empirical Treatment was started.
Culture report turned out to be isolation of PSEUDOMONAS species, its Antibiotic Sensitivity was obtained.
Under appropriate antibiotic coverage Incision and Drainage of Lacrimal abscess was performed and baby was followed up until complete resolution occurred.
